As part of activities to mark World Contraception Day, 2020, Marie Stopes International Organisation Nigeria (MSION) partnered with a non-governmental organisation identified as Stand With a Girl Initiative (SWAG) to provide free contraceptive services to women at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Wassa, FCT, Abuja.

During the activity which took place on Saturday, September 26, contraceptive services were offered to women after they were sensitized on the various methods available, their benefits, disadvantages and the options suitable for their lifestyles.

Speaking at the event, Marie Stopes Nigeria’s Youth Engagement and Advocacy Officer, Rahama Bungudu stated that the partnership with SWAG was part of efforts to give women in hard-to-reach locations access to life-saving sexual and reproductive health services.

“Women are at the centre of everything we do at Marie Stopes Nigeria, and the woman at the centre for us does not exclude internally displaced persons. Sexual and reproductive health is a human right and they are entitled to it as much as any woman," she said.

Bungudu added that, Marie Stopes Nigeria believes in and promotes equal opportunity and access for women all over Nigeria to determine their own futures.

A major side attraction at the event was the decoration of 14 religious leaders and camp executives as childbirth spacing champions.

In a related development, Marie Stopes International Organisation Nigeria (MSION) commemorated this year’s World Contraception Day by visiting major broadcast media houses in Nigeria to increase awareness about contraception.

MSION featured on the Weekend Show on African Independent Television (AIT), the Morning Show on Rhythm FM, Benin and the Midday Show on Wazobia FM Abuja to talk about contraception and encourage people to take control of their sexual and reproductive health.
